      Charter Schools

What are Charter Schools

Charter schools are tuition-free, publicly-funded, privately managed schools.  They are required to meet all state rules and regulations. They cannot be affiliated with any church, may not engage in religious instruction, and may not discriminate on who can attend.  In order to promote diversity in the student population, the state of Nevada mandates that charter schools use an enrollment lottery if more than the maximum number of students apply (nevadacharters.info).

There are a total of 17 public charter schools serving 6810 students (about 10%) in Washoe County, NV.
